GOLDEN BACHELOR of THE MERCATO
Good things come to those who wait. Just ask Venice Mercato on the island as they spread love, roses and appreciation to their customers on Thursday, Feb. 6st from 10:00 to noon, featuring the golden bachelor of the Mercato Season 11 Karl Schmitz, to celebrate Valentine’s Day month.
Karl lives in Venice and will deliver roses and smiles to more than 50 gals getting off a 50-foot motor coach bus, just to get a glimpse of this handsome bachelor, as he will ask each one of them, “will you accept this rose?’.
Move over Jack LaLanne and Richard Simmons we found our own golden fitness bachelor volunteering on Friday at the Venice Chamber of Commerce.
Karl, originally from Detroit, Michigan, has many accolades under his belt, a Paratrooper with the 101st Airborne Division, holds a master’s degree in Engineering from Wayne State in Detroit, taught master level classes at two universities, worked for General Motors for forty-one years, and moved to Venice in 2001.
However, that hasn’t slowed down Karl. He was a substitute teacher at Pine View for 18 years, help build sets at the Venice Theater for 23 years, belongs to the Italian American Club, made 500 shark tooth scuba dives off Venice beach, ran 4 miles, 4 times a week for 42 years and now bikes 5 miles a day for the past 3 year. Karl was widowed after 43 years of marriage, has two boys and three grandchildren.
He is such a gem to the Venice area, he says he is truly fortunate, life is great, and he has never spent a sick day in bed. Now he can add “Golden Bachelor of the Mercato” to his long list of accomplishments.
His ideal partner would be kind, considerate, loving, physically fit and close to his age range. We have heard that love only gets better with age.

Venice Mercato on the island, The Happy Thrifter Resale Guide along with the Mystery Resale Shopping Bus Tours (Thrifting Tours by Bus) of Venice, have teamed up to bring in their local “Golden Bachelor of Mercato” Season 2 to the island for this special event. The bus is SOLD-out, however there is plenty of parking at the Venice Mercato to take a glance at the golden bachelor plus do some shopping at this unique market.
Venice Mercato on the island is a European style flea market where you can find vintage goods, up-purposed, salvage goods, garden, home décor, amazing creative vendors and maybe even a cupid doll! Located at 200 Base Avenue East.
