The Twig Cares Founders Dianne and Lloyd Weed Honored by Governor Ron DeSantis and First Lady Casey DeSantis at the Third Annual Florida’s Heroes Reception

Dianne and Lloyd Weed, the founders of The Twig Cares, Inc., were recently honored by Governor Ron DeSantis and First Lady Casey DeSantis at the Third Annual Florida’s Heroes Reception, held at the Governor’s Mansion in Tallahassee.

Sixty-two Florida heroes were celebrated at the event, recognizing individuals who have shown remarkable kindness, bravery, and selflessness in their communities. The ceremony included a diverse group of honorees, such as first responders, law enforcement, philanthropists, faith leaders, and entrepreneurs, as well as those who have dedicated themselves to nonprofit efforts, adoption and foster care, mentorship, and advocacy.

Dianne and Lloyd Weed were recognized for their outstanding commitment to supporting foster families in Florida through The Twig Cares, Inc. Founded in 2016, The Twig Cares has grown from a small initiative started by Dianne to a vital organization serving children in foster care throughout  Florida. Each month, The Twig provides children in foster care with the opportunity to shop with dignity for clothing, shoes, and other essentials completely free of charge.

With the support of 250 volunteers, The Twig Cares serves 400 foster children each month, making a lasting impact on children’s lives across the region. Governor DeSantis and First Lady Casey DeSantis recognized the Weeds for their tireless dedication to foster families, emphasizing the importance of their work in helping children feel loved and supported while also meeting their practical needs. “It was a privilege to be given the opportunity in Tallahassee to be a voice for the foster care community in our area.” Dianne Weed said as she reflected on attending the reception.

The Florida’s Heroes Reception highlighted the collective impact of individuals and organizations committed to service, volunteerism, and creating positive change in the community. This recognition further reinforces The Twig Cares’ ongoing mission to provide essential resources and support to foster children and families in need through the support of our community.
